By Jeff Slaughter…Periscope is the current darling of social media. Barely three months old, the app was purchased by Twitter for $100 million and is taking the social media world by storm.
What does it do?
You download the app on your smartphone and it allows you to broadcast live to your followers as well as view live broadcasts. While broadcasting, your followers can send brief twitter-like comments and questions as well as send ‘hearts’ by tapping on the screen to show appreciation for the broadcast.
Periscope has an endless number of applications for ministry: pastors can broadcast brief morning devotions to their congregations; churches can broadcast announcements to members; missionaries can give updates from the field; and on and on.
So, is this is just another social media fly by night? I don’t think so. Judging by Twitter’s financial commitment to the idea and the early adopters who have are building an audience with the app, I think it’s here to stay.
For those who learn how to use it strategically, Periscope has the potential to revolutionize the way churches, pastors, missionaries and Christian thought leaders communicate.
While the linked article below details six ways you can use Periscope in your ministry, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
Happy ‘Scoping’!
